Here is a pencil drawing that I created for the ImageOut Art Show – hopefully the jurors will accept it! They have called for entries that respond to the issues surrounding marriage equality. The show, entitled “I do!?” aims to represent the diversity and weight behind the word “marriage” addressing multiple points of view. In light of the recent DOMA judging, some might find this image particularly interesting.

I prefer to have a portrait speak for itself and allow viewers to find their own interpretation of my drawings. However, I will note that it was fantastic to play with the striking contrast of dark skin and a white background and light netting.  The play on opposition continued with one person having their eyes closed and another looking straight out at the audience. This can be seen as a wedding portrait, a social commentary, and an artistic experience. Mostly, I hope you (and the jurors) just enjoy the final image.
